Nissan ups the ante on the large sedan segment with 2016 Maxima

The ‘four-door sports car’ is the Japanese car maker’s totally redesigned flagship with a 300-hp, 3.5 litre V6 powerhouse.

Japanese car maker Nissan has upped the ante with the 2016 Maxima, a totally redesigned four-door flagship on a 300-horsepower, 3.5-litre V6 engine that brings sports car-like acceleration and handling to the large sedan segment.

The new Maxima, which recently had its global debut at the New York International Auto Show, is described as a car “created by driving enthusiasts for driving enthusiasts” that changes the game and sets new standards.

The styling itself features Nissan’s new design DNA, among them the V-Motion front end, boomerang lights, kick-up C-pillars and unique floating roof look. The interior speaks of a premium segment sports car with a cockpit at par with luxury vehicles.

Moreover, the 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 has been upgraded with over 60 percent new parts compared to the previous generation 3.5-liter V6, unleashing 85.7 horsepower per litre on the road, and achieving, in the process, a15-percent increase in highway fuel economy.

Mated to the upgraded engine is the X-tronic transmission which kicks off a performance-oriented acceleration from full stop to a D-Step shift that makes it possible to do rapid shift-gears in high throttle.

The 2016 Maxima’s next-generation technology includes the NissanConnectSM that features an eight-inch touchscreen display with a SiriusXM satellite radio and SiriusXM Travel Link applications by subscription, and Google, among others.

The NissanConnect system is linked to a standard seven-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display (ADAD).
On the safety side, the 2016 Maxima has expansive components among them Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW).

The new Maxima comes in five grade levels including SL, SR and Platinum grades, set to be in showrooms this summer.

Nissan UAE was the first Japanese car manufacturer to establish a regional headquarters in the Middles East.
